SITUATION
The City of Folsom required a temporary floating pumping system capable of delivering 30 cfs over Folsom Dam to maintain the city's drinking water supply during drought conditions. The emergency response project included approximately 2,200 linear feet of 12-inch, 18-inch, and 36-inch HDPE pipelines and 10 floating pump sites.
CHALLENGE
The project required the construction of a pump system capable of delivering 30 cfs through varying lake elevations as water levels rose and fell. Additional challenges included water operations and the placement of pumps and pipeline on the lake from the top of the dam.
SOLVED
MPS designed and fabricated a floating high-head submersible pump system to convey water over the dam and tie into an existing pipeline. The floating design allowed operation and control of flow on the dam while lake levels varied.
