Pipeline rehabilitation firm SAK Construction named partner by procurement co-op

SAK Named Contract Partner by Choice Facility Partners, a Major Nonprofit Cooperative That Streamlines Bidding and Contracting Processes for Facility Services

ST. LOUIS (March 15, 2011)—Pipeline rehabilitation and tunneling services contractor SAK Construction has been named a contract partner by Choice Facility Partners, a Houston-based cooperative purchasing organization available to government entities nationwide. Choice Facility Partners streamlines the bidding and contracting processes for infrastructure projects for a variety of nonprofits, including cities, counties, school districts, colleges and universities. SAK Construction, which is headquartered in the St. Louis area, was selected through a competitive bidding process as Choice Facility Partners’ “contract partner” in the master category of trenchless technology rehabilitation.

“SAK’s partnership with Choice Facility Partners incorporates the benefits of cooperative purchasing and enables us to provide CFP members the best overall value in trenchless technology and other pipeline rehabilitation services,” says Charlie Kuhnmuench, vice president of business development, SAK Construction. Technologies offered under the partnership include cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining in water and sewer pipes, pipe-bursting in water and sewer pipes, Swagelining of sewer force mains and water transmission mains, CIPP lining in sewer laterals and manhole rehabilitation.

“Deteriorating or inadequate pipelines are currently a major concern through many parts of the U.S. due primarily to the nation’s aging infrastructure,” Kuhnmuench says. “With newer, ‘no-dig’ technologies, such as those offered through our Choice Facility Partners contract, we can address the problems associated with crumbling water mains, sanitary sewers and storm sewers with minimal disruption to above-ground activities. This is welcome news on busy city streets and campuses, such as those associated with facilities served by Choice Facility Partners’ membership.”

Choice Facility Partners is a rapidly expanding cooperative purchasing organization that began in one Texas county, spread across the state, and then invited nationwide participation. Membership outside of Texas currently includes entities in Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Minnesota, Nevada and New Mexico.  By bringing legal, competitively-bid facility contracts to municipal governments and other client members, Choice Facility Partners streamlines bidding processes and contract management, saving members time and staff costs, and expanding their purchasing capabilities. Choice Facility Partners was created by Harris County (Texas) Department of Education.

SAK Construction is one of the fastest-growing, privately held pipeline rehabilitation and tunneling contractors in the U.S. today. SAK (www.sakcon.com) clients include a variety of city, county and state agencies; industrial sectors; municipalities; and water and sewer cooperatives coast-to-coast. Recent SAK Construction contracts include two major projects for the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (the $9.178 million rehabilitation of Old Mill Creek Sewer and its connectors, and the 2,300 linear-foot, 96-inch diameter Coldwater Relief Tunnel rehabilitation); a $31.9 million, 3.5-mile Downtown Wastewater Tunnel for the City of Austin, Texas; a cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) project for the County Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles, Calif.; a CIPP sewer rehabilitation for the City of Phoenix, Ariz., totaling more than 120,000 linear feet; and a $3 million CIPP project for the City of Chattanooga, Tenn.
