Water Main Repair
Situation
3,100 feet of 30” cast iron water transmission main installed in 1927 had leaking lead joints.
Challenge
A tight easement, under homes and through busy roads, made open-cut impossible and shutting down service was limited to dry weather conditions. Also, flow capacity needed to be maintained.
Solved
Several methods analyzed – with SAK’s Compressive Fit selected to maximize flow capacity, limit excavation, follow the existing utility path and speed of installation. In addition, 1,000 feet pull distances were used to minimize connections and disruption.
